Preschool services refers to the interventions, such as speech or behavioral therapy, available from age 3 to kindergarten.  Your school district provides these services through their special education department.  While early intervention services address overall development, preschool services focus on facilitating social skills, and beginning academics. 

The school's special education department is tasked with preparing an Individualized Education Program (IEP) for your child.  The IEP describes your child's strengths and weaknesses and sets goals and objectives.  It also describes how the school will provide the appropriate services. 

By law, these services must be provided to you at no cost.  It is important for the family to remain involved during and after the IEP is established, monitor progress, stay in contact with the educational team, reevaluate goals and provide consistency between home and school.
